20 September 2026
Last week our co-editor Claire Oxlade suggested we share our triumphs (and disasters, if you like) with the rest of the club via this esteemed organ. This week, she has stepped away from the laptop to win second prize in the Eton Dorney triathlon. An absolute triumph, more in the results round-up below. Huge congratulations, Claire! She joins Alex Yee in winning silver at a triathlon this week. Yee came second in the latest World Triathlon series event in Czechia.
Also below, a whole bunch of PBs in everything from hurdles to half marathons: truly inspirational stuff from our talented athletes.
If this inspires you to screw your courage to the sticking place and your spikes into your running shoes, we have cross country coming up in just three weeks. Cross country racing comes free with your membership so it seems rude not to get involved. The races are massive fun and keep you buzzing all weekend.
Dates can be found in the Event Calendar section, below.
Also, notice has been given by our club secretary Jake Simmonds, that the Annual General Meeting of Kent Athletic Club will take place on 17 November and that any items for the agenda should be submitted to him by 30 September.
So once again, do share your stories, photos, results and news with us so we can sing your praises here. Your editors love to hear from you, and so do your club mates.
RESULTS ROUND UP
We’ll start with a particularly springy youth and his PB: Otis Atlee, who won bronze in the 200m hurdles at the U14 Kent Medway Park Championships. In Gillingham. Otis is seen here on the podium. Brilliant, Otis!
Then we’ll hark back a bit to last week and an elegant and excellent 5k PB achieved by Jo Wint, who ran 20.57 in Battersea on Thursday evening. The day before our ever speedier Che picked up bronze overall and a trophy for being first Vets AC finisher in the Vets AC 10000m in Tooting. Congratulations go to Narciso, too, for his 49.33 PB in the same race.
Leaping back to the present and today, Sunday 20 September, saw some wonderful performances in marathons and half marathons, as well as Claire’s extraordinary triathlon result:
Morecambe Marathon: Joe Hartley 2:44:19 (third place), who paced (for the first 20 miles) Ian Ellwood; 2:58:22
Eton Dorney Triathlon: CO 2:29″:59 (34:37/69:12/41:17. She was first on the bike, second on the run. second place overall
Belfast Half: Richard Giles 77.49 and Caoimhe nic Fhogartaigh 82:31 (third VW45) (picture below)
Copenhagen Half: Peter Range 88:28 PB
A brace of swifts in Belfast
BIG BOBBLES INCOMING
A Kent AC Big Bobble Hat is the hot (sometimes very hot in a mild winter) look for the cross country season. If you missed out on last year’s order, contact Sarah Young via the website to put your name on the list for the 26/7 season. Our models below can show us how very stylish they (the hats, that is) are:
