Earlier in the week Clare Elms did what she does best and broke her own VW60 mile world record at Wimbledon, running over 6 seconds under her previous mark in 5:18.97. Molly O’Connor (5:22), Amelia Pettitt (5:30) and Dee O’Brien (5:44) also ran well.
Our fourth open event of the year is on Thursday 11 September – there will be 200m, junior 800m and 5000m races. If you’d like to race, please sign up below, but if you can’t race, please consider volunteering – events only happen with your help!
Don’t forget the next Assembly League race is this Thursday at Victoria Park. Richard Elliot has sent round the details by email and Whatsapp – it’s a 3.5 mile race starting at 1930, meet at the Victoria Park Harriers clubhouse at 1900 to pick up your number and register on the spreadsheet that will be available on the day.
Kent AC welcomed nearly 200 athletes from multiple clubs to our second Ron Hale Open meet, competing at sprints, hurdles, LJ and TJ, and 1500m. More than half the competitors were juniors, with S Factor and Southwark well represented against our youngsters. There was a very high quality of competition throughout.
There were two rounds of the 100m, eight hurdles races, plus 300m and 400m. In the 1500m, Cameron Dockerill ran an impressive 4:04 to win the Kent AC men’s club championships ahead of Nick Acfield and Dame Dibaba. Aisling Ahern won the women’s club championship in 4:49 ahead of Clare Elms, targettng another record just three days after her WR in Wimbledon, in 5:00, and Rebecca Palser 3rd in 5:04.
