KENT AC NEWS BULLETIN
21 July 2024
Less than a week until the start of the Olympics, and just 10 days until Kent’s Olympic medallist Alex Yee competes in the triathlon, but we don’t need to go to Paris to see a world record – Clare Elms has done it again!
On the track at Wimbledon, Clare ran 5:26.13 for the mile to break the VW60 world record of 5:28.02. Her 1500m split time of 5:05.04 was also a British record, so she now holds the British records at 1500m and the mile for VW45, VW50, VW55 and VW60 age categories – plus quite a few more, we make it 10 outdoor track, 7 indoor track and 5 road British age group records now, plus 3 indoor and 1 outdoor world records and a few European records too!
Also on the Wimbledon track, Dee O’Brien broke her mile PB with 5:34.89. Elsewhere, Dame Dibaba won the Bedford Harriers 5k in 15:15, Chris Greenwood ran an impressive 32:00 in the Brighton Phoenix 10k to come 8th and 1st VM50 with Dan Ansell finishing in 37:52, and in Battersea Park a handful of Kent runners did the Vets AC 5k, with Barnaby Day coming 3rd in 16:20.
Don’t forget the track social on Tuesday 30 July, and the KYAL at Norman Park next Sunday 28 July.
