KENT AC NEWS BULLETIN
26 June 2022
On one of the hottest evenings of the year, relief came in the form of celebratory pints after the Bromley Midsummer 10k, on Wednesday 22 June, well deserved by all the Kent AC’ runners, who proved their heat resistance in some style. The weather has been kinder to runners this past weekend, which means we have a most encouraging results section to share with you. And a few jolly snaps to enjoy: first up, Kent AC descend on Catford parkrun ….On a more serious note: everyone loves racing to train, but for every exciting event in the race diary, organisers needs volunteers to make it happen, so we’re asking everyone to do their utmost to help out at the roster of events we’ve got lined up for you. Read the section OFFICIALLY NEEDED to find out how you can help…
RESULTS JUST IN
Bromley’s Midsummer 10k last Wednesday saw some ace running from Jake Simmons (placed second in 35.18), Samuel Evans (36.12) and Kieran Page (38.04), with Sarah Hanley first woman in 39.17 with Katie Rowland hot on her heels in 40.59.We’ve just come to the end of a great weekend of racing. On Saturday Kent AC runners were Top Cats at Catford parkrun; five out of the top six finishers were club members; a special mention must go to Jonathan Tipper, who was late to the Catford party, and, having mistakenly run to Hillyfields and and starting four minutes behind, overtook most of the field to secure his tenth place. Chapeau! One day he’ll show up on time. But it’s a run, not a race, after all, isn’t it?
Sunday was North Downs Run, and a few Kent women: Victoria Buck, Theresa Murphy, Zuzana Nemeckova, Sarah Young and Ronnie Haydon took on the hilly 30k course. The day belonged to our leader Victoria Buck, who was third woman and first VW45, and won a Masters medal for her category to boot:
OFFICIALLY NEEDED
Your club needs you!
There are four remaining league fixtures, and possibly some club track championships in the pipeline.
We badly need officials for these, especially the two remaining SAL matches. Without officials there will be no matches and all the great success Ian and Vic and their fine team have created will be squandered.
You don’t need a qualification, duties aren’t onerous and in fact are good fun. You also get travel covered & a free lunch!
The fixtures are:
16-Jul: SAL Tooting
6-Aug: KYAL Tonbridge
13-Aug: SAL Tooting
We also need people to do courses in field, starter, track judge and timekeeping and the club will pay for these and your EA subs.
Contact Len to volunteer or for more information.

JUNIOR NEWS
The juniors were out in force in Erith this weekend for Match 3 of Kent Athletics Youth League (KYAL), for Under 15 and Under 13 athletes, comprising 16 teams from the historic county of Kent. After finishes of 6th and 5th in Division 2 (8 teams) in the past two matches, the squad made a big push for this match: a great team of 31 young athlete travelled down the A2 to take part in this match. We’re still awaiting final results but it was nip and tuck the whole day between the top 5 teams so anyone’s guess where we ended up. Watch this space next week for definitive results. Highlights included an awesome 1.54m by Clio Parkes (U15) in the high jump. Great to see our new high jump group led by coach Rawlston Morian is already producing results. Also, there was a great battle in the U15 girls 300m where training partners Sophia Sahai (Kent) and Elena Oliphant (S Factor; 2nd claim Kent) traded blows (not literally) down the home straight. It was too close to call from the stands, we’re still awaiting the results to see who came out victorious. Nonetheless, great racing by both girls. Final match of the season will be in Tonbridge on Saturday 6th August.
Many thanks to all the coaches and officials who gave up their time to volunteer at this event. Can you help? Here’s another reminder about why it’s so fulfilling:
Juniors’ Coaches Recruitment Video A video has been produced by member Paul Crompton to help us recruit more coaches for the Juniors. Our thanks to Paul and to the youngsters featured, Harvey, Mikey, Mei, Ryheime, Clio, Kyros, Tess and Ellie. Note for the women regarding those hot pants:
I recommend checking the size guide as I looked and the minimum size is UK 8 which equates to 25inch waist which I think is a little on the small side and more equivalent of a size 6.Any queries about the kit, contact https://www.newbalanceteam.co.uk/category/kent-ac-members/
